A Guide to Using This Handbook
Welcome to the Online Teaching Handbook, designed to support your journey through Florida SouthWestern State College’s Online Teaching Certification. This handbook serves as both a guide and a companion, helping you navigate the Canvas course modules and complete a project demonstrating your mastery of key online teaching skills, leading to online teaching certification.
Our goal is to empower you to excel in online teaching. By the end of the online certification course, you will be able to create clear and concise module overview videos, manage effective communication through announcements and virtual office hours, and design discussion board assignments and assessments centered on Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI). You will also learn to provide constructive feedback using Canvas’s tools and explain how to deliver interactive and collaborative synchronous sessions.
This handbook is a practical resource to enhance your online teaching practices and deepen your understanding of effective pedagogy in the technology-enhanced classroom. It’s designed to reinforce the learning outcomes of the course and support you in developing skills that meet the needs of today’s online learners.
