Identity: An Introduction

Identity is at the core of who we are as human beings. Our name, appearance, and personal information literally identify us in society. But, identity is also about a sense of place, a sense of belonging, and a sense of being that is often far from literal. Identity encompasses our jobs, our social and political affiliations, our race, sex, gender, and nationality.

The readings in this section explore topics related to identity in all of its meanings and permutations.
